PTIR™ Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic
Prepregs for Composites (patent pending)
PTIR™ Prepreg
Kubota Research Associates, Inc. has developed a new GREEN process for manufacturing fiber reinforced thermoplastic prepregs. PTIR™ prepreg was developed with funding from NSF SBIR project #0512869. The prepregs are applicable to Out of Autoclave (OOA) composite forming methods including cold press forming to maximize productivity.
PTIR™ Prepreg, thermoformable sheets and MemBond™ films contain a PTIR™ IR emitter dispersed in a thermoplastic matrix. The matrix resin is impregnated onto a reinforcement fabric such as carbon fiber and polyarylate LCP fiber.
PTIR™ Prepregs are tailor-made to meet industry and customer needs.
A range of PTIR™ thermoplastic resins address industry applications such as aerospace, automotive and other high performance composite requirements. Kubota Research offers PTIR™ Prepregs made using the following thermoplastic resin matrix materials:
- Ionomer
- Polyurethane
- Polypropylene
- PMMA
- Polyamide
- PPS
- PEEK
- Polyimide (TPI)
PTIR™ Prepreg materials are made using carbon fiber, and organic fiber in woven fabric and unidirectional forms. Kubota Research offers PTIR™ Prepregs made using the following high tenacity fiber materials:
| Toray Carbon Fiber T700 12K | UD | Plain Weave | Braid |
| Vectran® HT LCP Fiber | UD | Plain Weave | Braid |
